Amanda Fernandez recently graduated from UMBC in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Psychology. Amanda intends on pursuing a PhD degree in molecular biology and cancer research. During the 2017 summer, she was part of an REU in Greece in which she focused in the conservation biology of several bee species. This summer, she is working alongside Dr. Wagner and attempting to find the origin species of different parchments. The goal of the project is to use DNA and collagen evidence to successfully identify the species without being destructive to the parchment so that these methods can be later used by art conservators.
