Harley White is a rising senior majoring in chemistry and minoring in art history and music at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. During her sophomore year, her collaborative research poster “Rethinking the General Chemistry Labs: Modernizing, Developing, and Greening the General Chemistry Curriculum” was published by the American Chemical Society. In addition, her poster based on the same research, “Soapmaking as a General Chemistry Lab: Applying a Viral Trend to Teach Chemistry” won the second-place education division prize at the Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Chemical and Biological Sciences at UMBC.
In her free time, Harley enjoys visiting museums, particularly the National Gallery of Art and the Natural History Museum. Harley hopes to be able to use her scientific skills in a way that applies to her passions of art and music history. Art conservation and computational chemistry are two entirely new fields for her, and she is looking forward to exploring them through the SCIART program.
