Khalid Elawad is a student at Johns Hopkins University majoring in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) with a concentration in biomaterials. As an undergraduate in the MSE department, Khalid previously did research in a lab studying polymer chemistry. The focus of the research was the synthesis of polymersomes that could potentially carry certain drugs and maintain stability in different chemical environments. With a concentration in biomaterials, he hopes to someday work in the field of regenerative medicine and study biocompatible materials that facilitate growth processes. In addition to academics and Johns Hopkins, he is a member of the local chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national community service fraternity, where he serves on the Executive Board. Khalid also performs magic for community members as a member of the JHU Magical Arts Initiative. As an amateur musician, he has always been interested in the Arts and the non-traditional applications of science and engineering. At the SCIART Program, he will be working on the Sensors Team to investigate wireless sensor technology that monitors vibrations with regards to the art museum environment.
