Samson Maina is a UMBC undergraduate sophomore student majoring in Biological Sciences. After completion of his undergraduate studies, Samson hopes to attend medical school. Samson is a member of the honor society and the UMBC soccer club. The SCIART program was of interest to him because it was a unique crossover of art and science, both of which are of great interest to him. He is looking forward to applying his scientific knowledge in the conservation of art. Dr. Glenn Gates, a conservation scientist from the Walters Art Museum, will be in charge of the surface metal cleaning part of the program. Samson and fellow SCIART students, Marie Desrochers and Alex Taylor, will be involved in the investigation of the effects and challenges of physical and chemical cleaning of gilded silver.
